National Association of the Deaf
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is the nation’s premier civil rights organization of, by and for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America. Established in 1880, the NAD was shaped by deaf leaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community to use sign language, to congregate on issues important to them, and to have its interests represented at the national level.
Utah Division of Services of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The DSDHH mission is to elevate, unify, and empower the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind Utahns by building an inclusive community with full communication access. The DSDHH is based at the Sanderson Center of the Deaf.
The Center of the Deaf was created under the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation and provides services for people with hearing loss (both Deaf and Hard of Hearing).
We provide services out of two locations:
- Taylorsville, Utah – Robert G. Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing
- St. George, Utah – Southern Utah Program Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services – satellite office
Utah Association of the Deaf is an association for deaf citizens in Utah. Their services encompasses five areas:
- Unification of deaf and hard of hearing people in Utah.
- Promotion of their interests.
- Service, consultation and advocacy.
- Promotion of charitable and educational betterment and well being of deaf and hard of hearing people in Utah.
- Operation of the organization as a corporation for the following purposes:
- Sale of products for deaf and hard of hearing people.
- Establishment/operation of housing for deaf and hard of hearing senior citizens.
According to the ADA law, deaf and hard of hearing citizens have the right to interpreters in many different settings. Utah has several interpreting agencies that different entities can work with.
